On August 7th MacKenzie was honored to be a part of the annual Girls Inc. YESS luncheon. This is the 4th year that we have been involved with this program, and every year we are blown away by the event and the girls in general. Girls Inc. is an amazing organization that inspires and encourages young girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold.
As a women-owned business we are proud to support this program and Girls Inc. in general. The Y.E.S.S. program is a summer long program for 9-12 year old girls where they are taught skills they need to secure employment, launch their own businesses, and take charge of their lives . Throughout the program the girls develop their own business ideas and learn how to merchandise, advertise and conduct profit and loss analysis while launching their start-up businesses. The luncheon is where the girls open their businesses for the first time and learn how to serve customers in a real time market place.
I was actually lucky enough this year to go to the center to see the program in action. I attended a session where the girls were learning all about filling out job applications and interview skills. The applications that they filled out included everything from previous experience, references and job specific questions. They were also given an Interview Checklist, which included things that a prospective company will be looking for during an interview process. Having attended the luncheon the last 3 years it was great to be able see a little more of the behind the scenes of how the girls prepare all summer for this amazing event.
